Touching honor for Beat Fehlmann at the music festival in Speyer!

A musical highlight is coming up: the Speyer Music Festival of the German State Philharmonic Rhineland-Palatinate will take place from July 2nd to 6th, 2025 under the theme “Faust”. On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Goethe's work on the second part of the tragedy, the event will feature a colorful program designed to delight culture lovers in the region. The highlight of the festival will be the festive final concert on Sunday, July 6th, at 6 p.m. in the Speyer Memorial Church. This is all about the farewell to Beat Fehlmann, the director of the State Philharmonic, who has given new impetus to cultural life since 2018. During the concert he will be awarded the Peter Cornelius plaque, one of the highest awards for services to musical life in Rhineland-Palatinate. This reports Meeting point Palatinate.

Under the artistic direction of chief conductor Michael Francis, the concert will present the impressive “Scenes from Goethe’s Faust” by Robert Schumann. 21 soloists will be on stage for the performance. In addition to this crowning conclusion, the five-day music festival will offer numerous other events. These include, among other things, two serenades, one by the academies of the State Philharmonic and another by the cello group, both of which promise promising musical experiences.

Diverse program for everyone

The festive season is all about humanity and is dedicated not only to music, but also to literature: a staged reading of “Doctor Faust” will take place in the Speyer Historical Council Hall on July 6th at 11 a.m., with Matthias Folz appearing as the narrator. For the youngest visitors, there will be a children's concert entitled “The Earth is Round” at the Speyer Children's and Youth Theater on July 5th and 6th at 3 p.m.

There are also two serenades in the Old Town Hall of Speyer, which take place under the themes “Summer Holidays” and “Sunshine”. The first program on July 4th includes works by Halvorsen/Handel, Rossini, Mozart and Dvořák, while the Serenade on July 5th is for 12 cellos. Ticket sales for the music festival have already begun and are available online and via email Rhine Palatinate.
