New emergency clothing from THW Speyer: Modern, safe and flexible!
November 2, 2025 marks an important step for the emergency services of the Technical Relief Agency (THW) in Speyer. The THW is introducing a modern clothing collection that is intended to improve not only the safety but also the comfort of the volunteers. As die Rheinpfalz reports, the decision was made after a detailed analysis of the risk potential and surveys among the volunteers. The local association emphasizes that the new equipment is a clear sign of appreciation for the volunteers' tireless efforts.
The new clothing comes with some functional advantages. Not only is it lighter and more breathable, but it is also more visible - an important aspect for the safety of emergency responders. A central innovation is the “onion principle”, which allows helpers to dress flexibly, from functional shirts to weather protection. This adaptability will be particularly useful in changeable weather conditions.
New suits and representative clothing
The new blue protective suit replaces the long-standing blue and yellow emergency suit, which the volunteers are allowed to keep. The helpers also receive new daytime uniforms for representative occasions, which underlines their professionalism. Local representative Matthias Fahrnbach emphasizes that previous missions have made clear the importance of a change of clothing. “The availability of two suits increases operational endurance,” he explains.
But the focus of the THW is not limited to clothing. Since its founding in 1957, THW has been committed to designing environmentally friendly and sustainable buildings. With a team of 24 LEED Accredited Professionals, THW Design has also achieved national prominence by regularly giving presentations at conferences on important topics and presenting the latest trends in the industry.
The combination of the latest technology in the operational clothing and a clear commitment to sustainability shows that the THW has both the safety of its employees and the environment in mind. The commitment and appreciation for volunteers remains the core of the THW work approach, while the new measures show a significant improvement in commitment.
