New telephone pastoral care course: Help us! Information evenings starting soon!
TelefonSeelsorge Pfalz, an important ecumenical institution, will offer a new training course for volunteer work from February 2026. With a total of 200 hours, this training is intended to prepare interested people for the valuable task of pastoral care over the telephone. A special format has been chosen: the course takes place monthly on Saturdays, which should enable flexible participation for many interested parties.
Those interested will soon have the opportunity to find out more about the training at information evenings. There will be an appointment on November 5th, 2025 at 6 p.m. in the Luther Church community center in Kaiserslautern, followed by another information evening on November 11th, 2025 at 6:30 p.m., which will take place online. If you would like to register for the online evening, you can do so by email info@telefonseelsorge-pfalz.de do.
A strong network for noble souls
TelefonSeelsorge Pfalz is part of an extensive network that is present throughout Germany with over 7,700 volunteers in 104 cities. Every year, the dedicated helpers carry out around 10,000 pastoral care and counseling sessions on the telephone and around 3,000 chats. The advice is anonymous, free of charge and available around the clock - an important offer at a time when many people are looking for support in their time of need.
The most common issues with which people seeking advice turn to telephone counseling are concerns, fear of loss and psychological stress. This is reinforced by the challenges of our performance-based society. The opportunity to listen anonymously and receive support in a safe space is enormously important for many. The telephone numbers 0800/1110111 and 0800/1110222 have been toll-free since 1997 and are supported by Deutsche Telekom.
A calling that brings joy and meaning
Volunteers who are involved in telephone pastoral care not only benefit from in-depth training, but also from deep human enrichment. Many of the active participants have been there for over 40 years and report touching experiences when those seeking advice find new ways and discover their strengths. A strong sense of community develops among the volunteers, which brings strength and joy. This also includes the valuable feedback that you receive through the gratitude of those seeking advice.
The training itself is broad and covers not only the basics of conducting conversations or dealing with mental illnesses, but also the personal examination of one's own biography. Volunteers learn to listen without prejudice and to be sensitive to conflicts. An important prerequisite is that they are psychologically stable and resilient - not least because they are often confronted with complex and stressful issues such as suicidal thoughts or child abuse.
In addition, each volunteer usually commits to at least twelve hours of telephone service per month, although night shifts are also required. The training is free, which makes access to this important volunteer position easier.
For anyone who is thinking about getting involved and supporting other people in difficult times, Telephone Counseling is an excellent place to develop your skills and at the same time make a valuable contribution to society.
