The new Alfa Romeo Tonale: sporty, hybrid and full of surprises!

The Alfa Romeo Tonale has a freshly revised design and is stronger than ever. Above all, the new radiator grille, also called “Scudetto”, gives it a sporty and striking appearance. Wider track and the choice between 19 and 20 inch wheels make it an eye-catcher on the roads. But that's just the beginning! The interior design offers a real feel-good atmosphere with red leather, black Alcantara and state-of-the-art ambient lighting. So that you don't freeze even in cool temperatures, the seats are equipped with ventilation, heating and eight-way adjustment. All of this is reported by Auto Illustrierte.

Engine-wise, things are getting exciting! The new Tonale is available in two variants: the 1.5-liter mild hybrid gasoline engine has 175 hp, while the plug-in hybrid version has 270 hp. Environmentalists can be happy because both models meet the Euro 6E bis standard. The revised chassis technology also ensures that understeer is easily avoided. With Brembo brakes and a Q4 all-wheel drive, the Tonale is ideally equipped for any driving condition.

Hybrid options and performance

The hybrid version is powered by a 1.3-liter turbocharged engine, backed by a 15.5 kWh battery. This battery, which has to be charged via a charging station, gives the Tonale a particularly ecological touch. The gas version, on the other hand, impresses with a 2.0-liter turbo engine that puts out a lot of power with 268 hp. Both models are equipped with a nine-speed automatic transmission and offer all the necessary amenities that you would expect from a modern vehicle. According to Alfa Romeo USA, the base price of the gas-powered version is approximately $9,000 cheaper than the hybrid version.

For those who want something special, there is also a limited “Tributo Italiano” special edition. This not only shines with cosmetic changes, but also with technical upgrades. Depending on the model, prices start from USD 38,490 for the base petrol model to USD 53,990 for the exclusive special edition.

Technical highlights and comfort

The technical equipment of the Tonale leaves nothing to be desired. A 12.3-inch driver display and 10.3-inch touchscreen are standard. A wireless cell phone charging station and heated front seats are also included. The optional 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system ensures true entertainment, while safety features such as adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring guarantee a safe driving experience. Compared to competitors like the BMW X2 or the Cadillac XT4, the Tonale scores in several areas, including space. Second-row legroom is remarkable, exceeding that of the BMW X2.

The Tonale's performance data is also impressive: the plug-in hybrid manages the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. A value of 6.0 seconds is given for the gas-powered version. With a total range of 360 miles for the PHEV and 324 miles for the petrol version, the Tonale offers outstanding range. It only takes about 2.5 hours to refuel with a Level 2 charger - these are values that clearly make it stand out from the competition, as MotorTrend notes.

The heart of the new Alfa Romeo Tonale beats powerfully and makes drivers' hearts beat faster. Whether in the city, in the country or when traveling, this SUV cuts a really good figure and has the potential to set new standards in the luxury small SUV segment.
