Family duel in Trier: father hero wins against son and remains undefeated!
The VET-Concept Gladiators Trier are continuing their impressive run in the Easycredit Basketball Bundesliga. With the most recent win against Rasta Vechta, which took place on November 2nd, 2025, they have now won four games in a row. The match ended 96:87 (41:43) and saw the Gladiators once again as a dominant force in the home arena, where they are still undefeated.
The encounter was particularly emotional for Ralph Held, the Gladiators' sporting director, who competed in a special family duel against his son Christian Held, head coach of Rasta Vechta. It was the first time the two had met as opponents, which added extra excitement. However, Christian Held, who was born in Trier, emphasized that the game was “like any other” for him. Despite the family bond, family solidarity takes precedence over sporting results, as Ralph Held emphasized.
Tension until the end
The game was evenly balanced for long stretches, both teams gave nothing to each other and alternated in the lead. However, in the decisive final section, the Gladiators showed nerves of steel and managed to pull away.
A turning point in the game was the situation in the 29th minute when Behnam Yakhchali von Trier was noticed with an elbow foul against Rasta Vechta player Ferner. Referees Benjamin Barth and Benedikt Loder had to review the scene on video, which led to Yakhchali being disqualified. The spectators initially reacted with whistles and shouts of “goal”, but this quickly turned into cheers as the home team concentrated on the most important moments of the game.
Strong performance from the Gladiators
The Gladiators benefited from a strong team effort, particularly from Jordan Roland and Alonzo Verge Jr., who each scored 26 points. Roland emphasized that the victory was an expression of the excellent team chemistry. On the other hand, Rasta Vechta struggled with 19 turnovers and poor defense, which led to many offensive rebounds for the Gladiators.
With this further success, the Gladiators not only consolidate their place in the league, but also show that they are a serious threat in the current season. The fans in Trier can hope for more exciting games!
