Current crime situation
Burglary crime has repeatedly made headlines in recent years. According to current statistics, there were around 119,000 thefts in and out of apartments in Germany in 2023. Around 77,800 of these cases were residential burglaries, i.e. violent break-ins that can severely impact the privacy of those affected. This is also reflected in the increased sensitivity of the population to burglary crimes, especially in urban federal states where the risk is highest Statista analyzed.
Although the number of burglaries is still over 50% lower compared to 2015, the issue remains of great importance to many people. The burglary rate is particularly high in urban areas such as Bremen or Berlin, while Bavaria has the lowest numbers. All of this leads to a tense situation in which security is a major asset and many citizens are investing in preventive measures.
While the police in Zweibrücken will finally investigate this specific case, it remains to be seen how the general situation of burglary crime will develop in the future. The investigation could also lead to further information about the 37-year-old's motivation and background, which is an exciting topic given the increase in burglaries in recent years.
