On Monday, June 23, 2025, a tragic traffic accident occurred on Landstrasse 465 between Zweibrücken-Mörsbach and Käshofen. Around 2:05 p.m. there was a frontal collision between a brown Toyota Rav4, controlled by an 18-year-old man, and a black Hyundai i30, behind a 60-year-old woman. according to Blauglicht Report the Toyota got on the opposite lane, which ultimately led to the serious meetings of the two vehicles. The driver of the Hyundai still succumbed to her serious injuries at the scene of the accident, while the driver of the Toyota was only slightly injured and could be medical care on site.

accident recording and investigation

Both vehicles suffered considerable damage, which caused the police to block the country road for several hours. An independent expert was consulted to reconstruct the exact course of the accident. The investigation continues and the police ask the public for clues. Witnesses can contact the Zweibrücken police inspection directly-either by phone at 0631-369 15399 or by email to pizweibruecken@polizei.rlp.de.

Regrettably, these tragic incidents not only occur in Germany. The traffic accident statistics are used by Destatis to gain reliable, comprehensive and comparable data on the traffic safety situation. Every year, thousands of people in the EU lose their lives in traffic accidents or are seriously injured. Overall, the trend shows a decrease in traffic fatalities - between 2010 and 2020 the number fell by 36 percent - but the numbers are alarming and underline the need for measures to improve traffic safety.

Focus on traffic safety

In 2019 there were 22,800 traffic fatalities in the EU, while in 2020 the number decreased to 18,800. These preliminary statistics show that in 18 EU member states the number of fatalities is at a record low, but we know that the pandeme-related decline in traffic had an impact on the number of accidents that are difficult to measure, how to measure how Europarl reported

The age group of 18 to 24 year olds is particularly worrying, which made 12 percent of road fatalities in 2018. However, this group is only 8 percent of the population. This shows that young drivers are particularly at risk. Nevertheless, it can be seen that the number of traffic fatalities in this age group has been reduced by 43 percent since 2010 - a positive development that matters.

Whatever the statistics and reports fail, as the tragic incident on Landstrasse 465 shows: behind every number and every report is a human fate. Traffic safety remains a central challenge that we have to continue to encounter with commitment.
