Zweibrücken's scariest competition: Halloween Superstar 2025 wanted!
In the cozy city of Zweibrücken, people are already preparing for a spooky and beautiful highlight: the children's horror costume show on October 31, 2025. As the city administration reports, this event will be celebrated in front of the impressive castle stairs with a red carpet as a catwalk. All little “Halloween heroes” up to 16 years of age are invited to register free of charge until Thursday, October 30th at 12 p.m. But places are limited – a maximum of 50 children are allowed to take part. So it's important to act quickly!
The excitement increases because participation requires a full Halloween costume. The originality of the costumes, including the mask and wardrobe, as well as the ability to move in a way that suits your character will be assessed. The Halloween Superstar 2025 is selected by a competent jury consisting of Mayor Wosnitza, Rose Queen Dilara and Sandra Cleemann. Each participating child also receives a participation certificate to capture the scary memories.
The Origins of Halloween
What many people don't know is that Halloween has a rich history that is deeply rooted in Celtic and Christian traditions. The name "Halloween" comes from "All Hallows' Evening", the evening before All Saints' Day, which has been celebrated since the year 835. The festival originally went back to the Celtic harvest festival Samhain, which marked the transition from the harvest season to winter. On this date, people believed that the lines between the living and the dead were blurred, which presented exciting and also scary possibilities. The custom of dressing up and asking for candy has its roots in “souling,” a tradition in which children asked for soul cakes and prayed for the dead on Halloween. These customs have developed over the centuries and vary from region to region.
Over the past few decades, Halloween has become one of the busiest holidays. In the US alone, spending is expected to reach around $10 billion in 2021, making it an economic event overshadowed by Christmas. Spending on Halloween items is also rising steadily in this country. In 2023, sales in Germany were around 480 million euros, with demand for decoration, costumes and make-up being high.
A celebration for everyone
Although opinions about Halloween vary, the event in Zweibrücken is a good opportunity for children to express their creativity and have fun together. The question remains how deeply one wants to identify with the origins of the festival. Some religious voices are critical of the roots of Halloween, although there are no direct references to celebrating Halloween in the Bible. Rather, it encourages us to think about things that are true and noble, which could stimulate an exciting discussion - and perhaps also about how and whether our approach to Halloween is still in line with these beliefs.
What remains is the joy of the colorful costumes and the sparkling eyes of the children as they show off their horror together on the red carpet. Registrations are possible both online and on site on October 31st between 3:15 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. If you want to register stress-free and uncomplicated, it is better to use online registration, which is available on the city of Zweibrücken's website.
The Halloween event promises to be great fun - maybe one or two participants will be crowned the real Halloween Superstar 2025! If you haven't registered yet, hurry up and be there when it's time to trick or treat!
