Wimpassing Judo Club: League leader after successful Shinzen Cup!
On November 1st, 2025, the Wimpassing Sparkasse judo club is looking forward to the coming challenge in the Shinzen Cup 2024. The team will have to assert itself in the final on November 23rd in Stockerau after getting off to a strong start with two narrow victories in the regular round. Despite the delayed start to the season due to several postponements, the athletes showed what they were made of.
The first day of competition on October 25th in Tribuswinkel brought with it a few surprises. Unfortunately, the judo club competed with a limited number of substitutes as three regular fighters were missing due to injury or other reasons. Nevertheless, a total of seven athletes had an exciting debut in the Shinzen Cup. Coach Lukas Häring was satisfied with the performances despite the changes: “The fighting spirit and clean techniques of our athletes were impressive,” said the coach.
The encounters in detail
Two decisions had to be made, and both ended with a narrow 8:6 for the Wimpassingers. The following fighters were on the mat against the judo sharks: Daniela Neubauer, Christian Bauer, Daniel Kernegger, Julian Holzbauer, Fabian Wallner, Hamid Zahir and Wolfgang Elian. The fighters Nikolaus Bauer, Simon Gamperl, Christian Bauer, Daniel Kernegger, Fabian Wallner and Jürgen Pollross were also used against Budokan Mödling.
In particular, the win without a fight against the Müaookami fighting community, due to their non-appearance, provides a positive boost on the way to the final. With these results, the Wimpassing Judo Club is currently positioned as the leader of the table.
A look at judo
But what exactly is judo? This modern Japanese martial art, which has been part of the Olympic Games since 1964, was founded in 1882 by Kanō Jigorō. Judo is all about throwing your opponents, immobilizing them or forcing them to give up. Judoka, as practitioners are called, wear traditional judo uniforms called “judogi.”
Judo emphasizes the importance of “Randori” – free sparring – and pursues the goal of self-improvement and mutual well-being. An important aspect are also the techniques, which are divided into three main categories: Nage-waza (throwing techniques), Katame-waza (ground techniques) and Atemi-waza (hitting techniques) - the latter of which is only practically used in the form of katas.
In competition, the fighters not only count points, but also strive for the “Ippon”, which is the full point that signals clear superiority. The Wimpassing Judo Club will certainly do everything in its power to achieve a successful result in the final with the best techniques and special fighting spirit.
With the impressive performances behind them and the motivation for the challenges ahead, it remains to be seen how the Wimpassing Judo Club will fare in the further course of the Shinzen Cup. All eyes are on the grand finale where the title will be defended. Confidence and team spirit are the keys to mastering the next hurdles.
