Saarland remains heat -resistant: Schools design their own concepts!

Saarland, Deutschland - In a hot, long summer, the question of organizing school days and the reconciliation of work and family is particularly the focus. In Saarland, there has been no nationwide "heat-free" regulation since the 2006/2007 school year, which is perceived as a healthy decision by the state government and the Saarland state parent representative. The schools are now responsible for developing individual concepts to react flexibly to weather conditions, such as [sr.de] (https://www.sr.de/sr/home/panorama/keine_landesweit_hitzefrei- Regulation_100.html) reports.

It is important to those responsible that working parents are not additionally burdened if lessons occur at short notice. Because the loss of school can quickly affect the entire family, especially if no quick childcare options can be organized. Instead of a general closure of the schools, it is recommended to move lessons to cooler places or even to close the school if the circumstances require it. The Ministry supports schools in ensuring this flexibility through advisory services and structural adjustments. Stefan Kreis, chairman of the total state parent representative, underlines the urgent need to adapt schools to climate change.

combined forces for the family

In today's society, it is becoming increasingly challenging for many parents to bring work and family under one roof. A survey clearly shows that there is often a lack of time. Almost all participants feel the stress that arises from the compatibility of work and family. You not only want more time for yourself, but also a better structure for the combination of career and family. According to Johanna Bing, parents are looking for individual solutions to better manage their reality of life.

Reality is often the case that mothers and fathers have to do catch -up work at the weekend that got stuck during the week. There is a lack of childcare that is required. Suggestions for improvement include, for example, longer daycare opening times and an increased understanding of the employer. The goal here is clear: gender equality and a fairer distribution of responsibility in everyday family life. Nevertheless, the challenge remains that concepts for single parents are often in the shadow of the general debate.

Employment participation under the magnifying glass

Current figures on the employment participation show that 7.2 million mothers and 6.2 million fathers in Germany are at work and have to provide the majority of families. While 68 % of the mothers and 92 % of fathers are employed, the numbers fluctuate depending on the age of the children. Only 40 % of mothers with children under the age of 3 are in a job while the percentage increases in older children. Many parents want stronger support in childcare and understand equality not only as a goal, but as a necessary prerequisite for a successful reconciliation of family and work, such as the [Federal Center for Political Education] (https://www.bpb.de/kurz-knapp/Sachen-und-fakten/-sozialbericht-2024/553064/verglicht- von-familieund-und-beruf/)) determined.

At a time when the social challenges are becoming increasingly complex, it has become clear that a joint tapping is necessary to raise the compatibility of family and work to a new level. Politics, schools and society as a whole have to take the needs of families seriously to create the framework conditions that enable a harmonious balance between professional and private life.
