Tennis fever in Roden: 60 players, new challenges and great emotions!
The tennis court in Roden was the scene of lively competition today, while the Tennisfreunde Roden hosted the 20th Dieter Quinten and Sohn Bedachungen Cup and the Klein & Gebhardt Haustechnik Mixed Tournament. With around 60 singles players and 20 mixed pairs, the tournament was well attended, although the number of participants fell compared to previous years, possibly due to a new registration fee from the German Tennis Association. What was particularly noticeable was that there were no competitions for women this year, which came as a surprise to some spectators. Nevertheless, the tournament atmosphere was consistently positive and harmonious, which the players and visitors present greatly appreciated. The Wochenspiegel Online reports that the award ceremony with a buffet and the positive feedback from the participants rounded off the successful event.
The results of the day were equally gripping. In the competition for the Dieter Quinten and Sohn Bedachungen Cup, John Trebing from TC Rot Weiß Altenkessel was able to prevail in the men's 30 age group. Christian Bohnenberger from Tennisfreunde Roden won the men's 40 category, while Falk Leidel from TC Saarwellingen won the men's 50 category. Sesto-Renato Carbini from STC Blau Weiß Saarlouis left nothing to be desired in the men's 60 category, and Robby Cillien from TC Schwarz Weiß Merzig won the title in the men's 70. In the Klein & Gebhardt Haustechnik mixed tournament, Anja Schäfer and Tobias Groß from TC Blau Weiß Homburg triumphed, while Monika and Dieter Winter from TC1979 Fraulautern triumphed in the mixed 40 category won. The Mixed 50 category went to Claudia Strauß and Christian Ziegler from TC Rot Weiß Heusweiler.
A look at the Davis Cup
Speaking of tennis, while the celebrations are taking place in Roden, the Davis Cup duel between Germany and Switzerland is taking place in Trier. After the first day, the score was 1:1 after exciting matches. Oscar Otte had difficulties and had to admit defeat in the opening match against Marc-Andrea Hüsler (2:6, 6:2, 6:4). Alexander Zverev, on the other hand, brought Germany back into the game with his clear victory over Stan Wawrinka (6:4, 6:1). Zverev was enthusiastic about the atmosphere after the match and described it as his best game since his injury. Although Otte was not satisfied with his performance, he remains optimistic for the upcoming matches, as Lokalkompass reports.
Three more matches are scheduled for next Saturday if necessary. Fans can look forward to a double between Andreas Mies and Tim Pütz against Dominic Stricker and Leandro Riedi. Davis Cup captain Kohlmann emphasized the importance of the doubleheader for the team's overall success.
The tennis season is at its best, be it in Roden with an all-round successful tournament or in Trier, where the national players give everything to win the Davis Cup for Germany. A good day for tennis!
