Experience diversity: Family calendar 2026 invites you to the biosphere reserve

A lot is happening in the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve in Saarland! On October 27, 2025, the presentation of the new family and leisure planner for 2026 took place at the Kreissparkasse Saarpfalz. District Administrator Frank John presented the diverse offerings that are intended to invite locals and visitors to explore the beautiful region. The aim of the calendar is to put the spotlight on the beauties and sights of the biosphere reserve and the entire Saarpfalz district, as reported Homburg1.

A special highlight are the nine listening tours in the Saarpfalz district, which are equipped with audio guides and draw attention to exciting archaeological sites and historical places. These tours are not only informative, but also entertaining and encourage a closer look, according to St. Ingbert.

Variety of offers

The biosphere reserve has a lot to offer: The Homburg Schlossberg caves entice with an 800 meter long tour that includes a helmet, cave map and safety briefing. The legendary trails in St. Ingbert invite families to an adventure on five child-friendly hiking trails that lead through exciting legends and fairy tales. The Ommersheimer Weiher also offers a relaxing environment with opportunities to play mini golf, watch water birds and visit a beer garden. Anyone who likes regional specialties will get their money's worth on the Höfe Weg in the open landscapes with animal encounters and culinary delights.

Another gem in the region is the Bliesbruck-Reinheim European Cultural Park, with its reconstructed burial mounds and Roman estates, which are always the setting for exciting events such as the Vita Romana Roman festival. Anyone interested in medieval history should visit Kirkel Castle, where a medieval castle summer and other spectacles await visitors. Finally, in the Jägersburg local recreation area, a water playground, a climbing park and the Gustavsburg beckons for a varied day outdoors.

Tourism with responsibility

The new leisure planner was not only created as an information tool, but is also intended to increase awareness of tourism offers among the population. An important element is the cooperation between nature conservation and tourism, which enriches both sides and at the same time contributes to promoting sustainable development. Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke emphasizes the role of biosphere reserves as important places for nature conservation and sustainable tourism. This view is taken by BfN supports that point out the need for conscious travel and leisure behavior.

The new brochure, which is available free of charge in the Kreissparkasse branches and at the cultural and transport offices, is a valuable orientation aid for anyone who wants to discover the region's beautiful nature and culture without any stress.
