Eiderbrücke Tönning closed: diversions now in place!

An exciting day in Schleswig-Holstein: There are several important events on the agenda on June 23, 2025. While preparations for Kiel Week are in full swing, an infrastructure project is causing diversions and a complete closure of the Tönning Eider Bridge. All of this happens with a view to maintaining the regional transport infrastructure.

Not much progress will be made today, especially in Tönning, because the bridge will be completely closed for maintenance work until tomorrow, June 24th, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The NDR reports that the Schleswig-Holstein State Office for Road Construction and Transport (LBV.SH) is replacing and adjusting the tip lock of the flaps from 1972. Diversions will be clearly signposted during this time so road users can navigate around the closure.

News from the Kiel Week

Kiel Week, an important maritime event, is once again attracting numerous visitors this year. The police drew a positive conclusion at the weekend: Despite 25 criminal complaints, including 14 for bodily harm, this is a decrease of two thirds compared to the previous year. Only 30 people ended up in police custody due to aggressive behavior, he said NDR. It remains to be hoped that this trend will continue.

Holstein Kiel is also using the opportunity to start its football season. The first public training session is today at 3 p.m. at Gettorfer SC, and a new jersey will be presented on June 25th. The anticipation for the coming season, which is scheduled to start with a test match on June 28th, is palpable.

Transport projects and environmental issues

The necessary measures for transport and environmental protection policy in Schleswig-Holstein are in a completely different league. The NABU highlights the policy decisions taken since 2017 to improve mobility in the region. The Paris climate protection agreement places high demands on the transport sector, and the question is whether Schleswig-Holstein can act as a pioneer in transport and environmental policy.

While bus and train connections in rural areas urgently need to be improved, road construction remains dominant. The question remains whether investments in long-distance road transport actually correspond to the regional need for action. Comprehensive operational efficiency in road transport could help reduce CO2 emissions, which already accounted for 27.4% of emissions in Schleswig-Holstein in 2014, according to NABU.

Several accidents in the region

Tragic news comes from Großniendorf, where a 45-year-old was seriously injured in an accident with a tree on June 22nd. The causes of the accident remain unclear at this time. A similar thing happened to a motorcycle ride in Itzehoe, which seriously injured a 24-year-old and during which a rescue helicopter was deployed. There were also two seriously injured people in Lutzhorn on the same day, and the condition of a 27-year-old is critical. These incidents highlight the urgency of road safety measures in the region.

There's only one thing left to hope for: stay safe on the streets and enjoy the festive atmosphere of Kiel Week!
