Flensburg was the scene of successful preliminary matches for the 2025 North-Baltic Sea Cup for children. TSV Westerland shone with numerous qualifications for the finals.

The North Baltic Sea Cup (NOP) has established itself as an important competition for young swimmers. The competition, designed specifically for children ages six to nine, encourages participants' versatility and endurance. Again Schleswig-Holstein Swimming Association explains, the swimmers test their skills in various disciplines. The fastest times from regional preliminary competitions will qualify for the final, which will take place on July 12, 2025 in Kiel.
This year, 13 children from TSV Westerland achieved brilliant results in the preliminary competition in Flensburg. Paul Steinmetz and Piet Brinkmann in particular stood out. Steinmetz, born in 2016, qualified for the final four times after swimming to the podium in several disciplines. He also improved his personal best time in the 100 m backstroke to 01:33.74 minutes.

Piet Brinkmann, born in 2017, impressed with new best times in several disciplines and qualified for four finals. Til Heyse (born 2016), who also qualified for the final over several distances, delivered further outstanding performances. The results at a glance:

The younger swimmers, born in 2018, also showed strong performances. Martha Lindstedt and Martha Maier qualified for the final, while Edda Rodenhauser attracted attention with an impressive time improvement. Particularly noteworthy is the participation of Sophie Karnath (born 2019), who achieved eighth place in her first competition.
Parallel competition: Viking Cup
At the same time, an older group from TSV Westerland competed in the Wiking Cup in Kiel. Here the young swimmers achieved remarkable results. Marlene Maier (born 2011) qualified for the state championships with a new best time and took seventh place with 1,152 points. Other participants such as Lena Klukas (born 2011) and Vasilisa Khramkov (born 2012) also achieved podium places.

Overall, TSV Westerland has put together a strong team with 15 qualified swimmers for the upcoming state championships in Lübeck. The Sylt mirror emphasizes how important such child-friendly competitions are. These events with shorter distances and simple tasks allow the little ones to get to know competitive sport in a playful way and are an excellent introduction to a classic swimming career.
The participants as well as the audience can be sure that they are looking forward to the final in Kiel, where the best swimmers in the country will compete against each other: This will be an exciting event that will give further impetus to swimming in the region.
