The anticipation of a very special winter atmosphere in Kiel is growing: from the end of November 2025, the city center will shine with new winter lighting on Holstenfleet. The central goal of this initiative is to keep the historic water connection between the Kleine Kiel and the boat harbor alive and to revitalize the city center. Kiel Marketing reports that the design will be characterized by maritime elements and impressive light installations.
A real highlight of the opening will be the “fleet fleet” of five sailing boats, which will be ceremoniously inaugurated as part of the Kiel Sea of Lights. According to the invitations to media representatives, the celebration will take place on Sunday, November 2, 2025. The welcome starts at 5:00 p.m., followed by a guided tour at 6:00 p.m. The interviewees include well-known representatives of the city and Kiel Marketing, including Mayor Renate Treutel and Managing Director Uwe Wanger.

At the same time, the fifth edition of the Kiel Sea of Lights is also on the program in Kiel. This event impresses with spectacular projections on building facades in the city center and along Holtenauer Straße. Kiel Sailing City highlights, that there will be over ten different locations along the great light route where visitors can experience music, art and light. The shops in Kiel are open on this day from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and offer numerous offers under the motto “I feel Kiel”.
The light installations start at nightfall and are consistently accompanied by exciting walking acts and artfully arranged parks. An event that you definitely shouldn't miss!
