New Cardiology Center in Kiel: Cardiac medicine at the highest level!

On Saturday, the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) in Kiel will become the home of a new cardiology center in House C. This modernly designed Cardiology Intervention Center (KIC) has set itself ambitious goals: the care of patients with heart disease should now be faster, more efficient and, above all, more outpatient. The KIC combines cardiac medicine for children and adults and offers a wide range of minimally invasive examinations and treatments. From newborns with heart defects to adults with heart attacks, all age groups can find comprehensive care here.

“We are pleased to be opening the KIC, one of the most modern facilities of its kind in Europe,” says Prof. Derk Frank, Director of the Clinic for Internal Medicine III. Thanks to its strategic location, the center enables urgent cases to be taken on immediately, as it is right next to the emergency room. This means you can act quickly in an emergency. There is also a Chest Pain Unit in the immediate vicinity, which was set up specifically for patients with acute chest pain.

State-of-the-art equipment for the highest demands

The KIC has six state-of-the-art treatment rooms on around 1,500 square meters, equipped with radiation-saving devices and advanced imaging technologies. Artificial intelligence is used to further improve patient safety and diagnostics. The Department of Internal Medicine III is dedicated to around-the-clock treatment of all heart diseases, while the Department of Congenital Heart Defects and the cardiac catheter laboratories have been merged into the KIC. This close collaboration ensures that the best standards of patient care are maintained even in more complex cases.

Particular attention is paid to outpatient treatment. Many patients can be admitted and discharged on the same day, which makes the relationship with the new facility particularly pleasant. The aim is for around 40 percent of all patients to reach the KIC on foot. This not only ensures good accessibility, but also increases the health awareness of citizens in the region.

Investing in the future of cardiac medicine

An immense renovation effort of around 15 million euros went into the KIC to ensure optimal care. The location itself has been transformed from a former laboratory and storage space into a light-flooded center for modern cardiac medicine. A newly designed daylight and color concept is also intended to promote the well-being of patients.

As part of the overall renovation of the UKSH, the new cardiology center is not only an investment in the latest medical technology, but also in the health of the population. It is part of the university's maximum care cardiology center and the ongoing collaboration with the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel, so that the latest findings can be quickly put into practice.

“We had a good hand when it came to planning and implementation,” says Prof. Frank. The KIC is not only a new symbol for cardiac medicine in Kiel, but also an invitation to everyone who is looking for first-class medical care. Those interested can find further information and the opportunity to contact us on the UKSH website or at Asklepios.

In the Clinic for Internal Medicine III, patients young and old can expect the most modern treatment methods, which are constantly being further developed through national and international networking with leading institutes. The focus is always on individual patient care - because every heart patient has their own story and needs a tailor-made solution.

As already emphasized, the strong team will be available around the clock to offer patients the best possible care. This makes it clear: the future of cardiac medicine is in good hands in Kiel.
