THW Kiel celebrates a strong 33:22 win against Al-Ahly SC in Doboj!

On August 16, 2025, THW Kiel celebrated an impressive victory at the 56th International Tournament of Champions in Doboj. The team defeated Al-Ahly SC 33:22 (15:8) and secured third place in the tournament. After a heavy defeat against VfL Gummersbach with 37:40, the Kiel team had something to make up for and presented themselves from their best side.

The game got off to a brilliant start: after just 11 minutes, the Zebras were already leading 9-1, which was enthusiastically cheered by the on-site spectators at the Sportskih Igara stadium, a total of 1,750. The best thrower at Kiel was Bence Imre, who scored 7 out of 2 goals. The keeper Andreas Wolff was impressive and parried a whopping 17 shots from the opposing team.

Strategic adjustments

Coach Filip Jicha took the opportunity to try out different defensive formations. What was particularly noticeable was his decision to introduce a new tactic with four backcourt players in a seven-on-six. These tactical adjustments paid off and Kiel's defense was significantly improved compared to the previous game.

In the second half, the Kiel team continued on their course and further extended their lead. Leon Nowottny, who came into goal in the last ten minutes, contributed to the clear victory with five saved shots. Despite the pleasing result, Jicha remained humble and emphasized that the team still had a lot of work to do. The next test match is already on Tuesday against TSV Altenholz.
