E-scooter accident in Lübeck: driver flees after collision!

An explosive incident occurred in Lübeck on June 10, 2025, when an e-scooter driver had an accident on Geniner Straße and then fled. According to [Image], the accident occurred at 4:15 p.m. when an Opel driver tried to turn into a property driveway. The e-scooter driver raced over the hood of the vehicle. After the collision, the man initially appeared to be uninjured, but refused ambulance assistance and quickly left without leaving his contact details.

The driver who witnessed the incident remained at the scene, as did a cyclist. They described that the approximately 35-year-old had a slim build, had dark, short hair and was dressed in a hoodie. Particularly strange: He spoke German without an accent. His e-scooter was black to dark gray and had two dark triangles on the handlebars, possibly a lock.

Advice requested

The police in Moisling have started an investigation and are asking witnesses to come forward. Anyone who has information about the fleeing driver or the accident can contact the police department at 0451-8097030. Investigators hope to shed light on this mysterious incident.

Accident statistics are rising

Such incidents are not rare. According to [shz], another serious accident occurred on May 19, 2025 with an e-scooter driver on Stargardstrasse in the St. Lorenz district. The 33-year-old driver fell without any external influence and sustained serious injuries, but thank God his life was not in danger. The exact circumstances are unclear and investigators have not yet found any evidence of alcohol or other substances.

The statistics speak for themselves: In 2023, the number of e-scooter accidents resulting in personal injury rose by 14% to 9,425. Among fatal accidents, deaths rose from 11 in 2022 to 22 in 2023, which by no means creates a good feeling among the population. What is particularly alarming is that 60% of accidents occurred in large cities and 33.8% were caused by single accidents, as [Destatis] reports.

The rules for e-scooters

Anyone who drives an e-scooter should be aware of the rules. Since June 15, 2019, e-scooters have been registered in Germany and require insurance. There is a minimum age of 14 years and a 0.5 alcohol limit. In addition, riders must use cycle paths or protective strips, if available - sidewalks are taboo. Current statistics show that the most common causes of accidents are incorrect road use and the influence of alcohol.

In general, e-scooter users should be particularly careful, not only for their own sake, but also for the safety of other road users. After all, a moment of inattention can quickly lead to dramatic consequences.
