Green oasis in Lübeck: Help design the Strukbach site!
Next Saturday, October 4th, 2025, the allotment area in St. Lorenz Nord will be the venue for a special project. From 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. everyone is cordially invited to take part in transforming the area into a green oasis. The aim is to develop the site into a recreational area with a fruit biotope and educational opportunities. As luebeck.de reports, the event is organized by Hanse-Obst e.V. in partnership with the Lower Nature Conservation Authority and other organizations.
The activities on Saturday include a short tour of the site, changing the wild growth, creating paths and building deadwood hedges. Those interested should not only take a look behind the scenes, but also get actively involved. If you want to take part, you should bring sturdy clothing and gloves - after all, we're working in nature here!
A living space for the city and nature
Hanse-Obst e.V. has been the tenant of the site since 2024 and is committed to designing it as a natural experience space. As hanse-obst.de explains, the site is designed not only as a city climate oasis, but also as a recreational area for residents in St. Lorenz Nord. For historical reasons, this district has little green space, which makes this initiative all the more important.
The project also aims to use the area as a “green classroom” for schools and daycare centers. Plans for holiday pass promotions, scout meetings and regular tours give the public a chance to explore the allotments and connect with nature. In recent months, animals such as blackbirds, blue tits and squirrels have already been spotted in the area - good news for biological diversity.
Green spaces as a quality of life
The importance of green spaces is often underestimated. As the Federal Environment Agency points out, they not only contribute to relaxation, but also improve the quality of the living environment and promote social contacts. In urban areas, they fulfill numerous functions, ranging from providing food to supporting climate and nature conservation. This project is a step in the right direction to provide citizens with a greener environment that also acts as a buffer against summer heat stress.
The regular work assignments, which begin every first Saturday of the month at 9:30 a.m., strengthen the community and promote awareness of ecological connections. The site will not only be a place for relaxation, but also a place for learning and creating together.
Anyone who is interested can simply show up at the site at Strukbach 2 on October 4th. Everyone who wants to lend a hand or enjoy the fresh air is warmly welcomed here!
