Honorable awards for Rendsburg's best: Boissevain and Froese honored

A solemn ceremony was held today in the heart of Schleswig-Holstein to honor the voluntary commitment of two outstanding personalities. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, also known as the Federal Cross of Merit, to Friederike Boissevain from Neudorf-Bornstein and Guido Froese from Rendsburg for their exceptional achievements in the social and cultural fields. Prime Minister Daniel Günther presented the awards in Kiel, where other honorees, including Hildegard Welbers from Lübeck and Günter Humpe-Waßmuth from Neumünster, also received an award. As KN Online reports, awards of this kind are not only a recognition, but also a motivation for many, to get involved in the community.

The Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany is the highest award for merit in the areas of politics, business, culture, spirituality or volunteer work. It was founded in 1951 by Federal President Theodor Heuss. In recent decades, the number of medals awarded has declined, but the importance of the honors remains unchanged. Awards are presented in eight levels, with the highest level, the Grand Cross, being reserved for heads of state, as [Wikipedia](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verdienstorden_der_Bundes Republik_Deutschland) notes.

The honors in detail

Friederike Boissevain made a name for herself as co-founder of the outpatient hospice association Dänischer Wohld and the inpatient “Hospice im Wohld” in Gettorf. She leads a project in which trained assistance dogs assist the bereaved with grief work and is responsible for advice on relevant topics such as health care power of attorney and living wills. She also initiated the highly valued “Hospice in School” project, which brings young people closer to important topics.

Guido Froese, on the other hand, is known as the head of the Rendsburger Nordkolleg and a committed member of the Schleswig-Holstein State Cultural Association. Since 2008 he has been actively supporting cultural promotion in the region and led the association as chairman for many years. His initiatives include the “KulturhilfeSH” funding program as well as support for children and youth work in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde District Cultural Foundation. He also played a large part in setting up an online cultural guide and is heavily involved in remembrance work.

Voluntary recognition

Every award is not only the result of personal achievements, but also the result of a strong network that takes care of each individual commitment. According to information from the Schleswig-Holstein State Chancellery, citizens can submit proposals for awards, although commitment of more than ten years is usually required. Their commitment and merits are therefore the basis for awarding such medals.

This award is living proof of how important volunteer work is in our society. It shows that people like Friederike Boissevain and Guido Froese not only achieve great things, but can also serve as role models. After today's honor, you can't help but ask yourself: Who from your local area could also soon be in the spotlight?
