Celebrate 25 years of the Tönning moonlight cinema: cinema evenings at the harbor!

On July 17, 2025, the Mondscheinkino in Tönning is facing a very special event: it is celebrating its 25th anniversary! Founded in 1999, this open-air cinema in the historic packing house at the harbor has developed into a cultural highlight in the region. Every year in the first week of August, cinema enthusiasts flock from the surrounding area to enjoy classic films, blockbusters and arthouse films on cozy summer evenings. The anniversary celebrations begin on August 7th and invite you to a special cinematic experience on three consecutive days.

As part of the celebrations, the moonlight cinema will show selected films on the following dates:
–Thursday, August 7th:“It’s the simple things”
–Friday, August 8th:“The Book Walker”
–Saturday, August 9th:“Mamma Mia”
The film screenings start at dusk around 9:30 p.m., creating a wonderful backdrop to make the cinema experience even more memorable. Advance ticket sales begin two weeks before the events; Tickets are available both online Eventim Light as well as at the well-known advance booking points, such as the tourist information center and the Boye Hamkens company in Tönning. Of course, the tickets can also be purchased at the box office.

Open-air cinema experience

The atmosphere in the moonlight cinema is simply unique. Visitors can not only look forward to exciting films, but also film-related treats that round off the experience. However, there is one small drawback: bringing your own food and drinks is not permitted. Instead, proceeds from the snacks and refreshments offered go to nonprofit organizations. A nice contribution to help others too!

It's not just the film screenings that are the focus of the week. On Monday, August 4th, there will be a free picture book cinema for primary school children in the Tönning city library from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. On Tuesday, August 5th, the Mondscheinkino invites you to a special film screening of the film “Monsieur Ibrahim and the Flowers of the Koran” in the St. Lawrence Church at 3 p.m., where coffee and cake will also be served. Voluntary monetary donations for the children's choir are welcome here.

Jens Krüger, the chairman of the Mondscheinkino Tönning e.V. association, would like to thank all the volunteers, supporting members and sponsors in advance. It is no easy task to put on such a significant event and the support is extremely valuable.
