Start of the campaign week: Appreciation for caring relatives in SH!
A small but important event is just around the corner: The first action week for caring relatives in Schleswig-Holstein will take place in Lübeck from November 10th to 17th, 2025. The initiator is the association we care SH e.V., which takes over the patronage together with the Forum Pflegegesellschaft e.V. and the Dementia Competence Center. The aim of this week is to put the spotlight on the situation of caring relatives and to promote more understanding and support. Nicole Knudsen from the association we care for SH e.V. emphasized how important it is that all social actors in Schleswig-Holstein can take part in this week and offer their own events. Anyone interested can find information about this on the website - quick access to this important platform can be found here.
The 'Getting Older' trade fair, which begins on July 11, 2025, and the Marli district festival in Lübeck are the first event highlights that mark the start of this week of action. Around 80% of those in need of care in Schleswig-Holstein are cared for at home by relatives, which affects over 200,000 people. The commitment of these carers is not only a sign of charity, but also an immense responsibility that must be honored.
Important support offers
The campaign week not only serves to raise awareness, but also to advertise existing support and advice offers. This includes the care bases in Schleswig-Holstein, which provide assistance and targeted information. The Dementia Competence Center also plays an important role - work is being done here to improve the care structure for those affected and their relatives. If you need further information, you can take a look at the website schleswig-holstein.de.
Another important aspect is the financial help that people in need of care can receive from the nursing care insurance fund. Depending on the level of care, families can receive up to 901 euros in care allowance per month. There is also a comprehensive range of nursing courses that are specifically aimed at making life easier for caring relatives.
Challenges and opportunities for relief
The challenges for caring relatives are often enormous, which is why various relief options are available. Care support allowance can be granted for up to ten working days to cover sudden need for care. The possibility of alternative and short-term care as well as day care also offers approaches to relieve the burden on families if home care is temporarily not possible.
These topics and many others will be part of the action week, which not only provides information but also creates a space for exchange and support. Given the high number of people in need of care, it is urgently necessary to actively address these issues and to focus on caring relatives.
