In total, the city of Pinneberg and Deutsche Bahn are investing a total of 30 million euros in the extensive modernization. In addition to the restoration of the reception building, which will be provided with new doors, LED lighting and a renovated roof in accordance with listed buildings, there will also be structural innovations: two old pavilions will be replaced by a contemporary new building.
Step by step to modernization
The first construction phase, which included the modernization of the station and the construction of a new passenger underpass, was completed in July 2023. This underpass, which has been available since 2020, not only offers passengers accessibility, but also has a modern design. The work is now concentrating on the reception building itself.
However, the challenges are significant: many passengers complain about the difficult access to the tracks and the lack of safety. Although some ideas for a pedestrian bridge or direct rail connections emerged, these designs have so far remained unimplemented.
