Neighborhood help in Schönberg: Fundraising campaign takes a surprising turn!
In Schönberg, a small community in the Plön district, a tragic case has occurred in recent years that has greatly affected the village community. On January 1, 2019, 39-year-old Nina D. was shot in the street on New Year's Eve by a projectile from a small-caliber weapon. This crime, which occurred during the fireworks display, remains unsolved to this day. The police in Kiel have now published a new appeal and are looking for witnesses who may have information about the incident. The investigating authorities are even offering a reward of 3,000 euros for crucial information in order to finally get to the bottom of the unsolved murder, reports RTL.
Almost four years ago, there was already great disbelief in the community. It was determined that the fatal shot came from the shooter's immediate vicinity. A shooting distance of several 100 meters can be ruled out. It is currently unclear whether the shot was fired intentionally or accidentally. Police do not rule out the possibility that other people may have been present when the shot was fired. Interest in the case remains high because solving the crime could also shed light on the circumstances surrounding Nina D.'s family.
The mourning for the orphans
However, the tragedy was not limited to the incident itself. Just a few years later, in June 2025, the children's father also died unexpectedly. This was another stroke of fate for the three orphans, who now live under the care of their aunt in the Plön district. A neighbor who wanted to support the family came to the fore and started a fundraiser to give the children a better future. First he collected around 3,000 euros from local businesses and the money was given to his aunt and children.
But the appeal for donations took an unexpected turn: thanks to the great interest, a GoFundMe page was set up on which almost 30,000 euros were collected. But the situation turned out to be complicated. The neighbor could not pass on the money because the aunt did not provide him with the necessary documents. The youth welfare office in the Plön district was also unable to help him, which ultimately led to him no longer wanting to accept any further donations and returning the money he had already collected.
This depressing situation affected many donors and left many questions. More than 1,000 emails from helpless supporters reached the neighbor, who wishes to remain anonymous and says that his commitment has hit “closed doors”. The youth welfare office asked for your understanding that no personal information about the affected children and their aunt can be passed on.
The role of initiatives
At a time when neighborly help and solidarity are so important, the community of Schönberg is constantly faced with new challenges. The case of Nina D. and the fates of her children offer deep insights into human suffering, but also illustrate how important it is to support each other in difficult times.
The investigation into Nina D.'s death remains unsolved, and the community hopes that the police's renewed call for witnesses will finally shed light on the matter. Meanwhile, the fate of the orphans remains in the hearts of the people in Schönberg and beyond. Help, understanding and commitment seem to be more in demand than ever.
