New course Strong Parents – Strong Children starts in Bargteheide!

An exciting new course will soon be starting in Bargteheide, offering parents the support they need to overcome the challenges of puberty. The “Strong Parents – Strong Children” course begins on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in the Blauer Elefant children’s home. The aim is to accompany parents in times of family upheaval and to help them to better manage conflicts with their children and to develop new perspectives. This exchange between parents is clearly the focus, supported by experienced educational specialists from the Child Protection Association, according to bargteheideaktuell.de in their report.

The course includes a total of nine dates, each taking place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with a break during the fall break. Participation is free for all parents; registration can be done via telephone number 04532-5170 or via email to elternkurs@dksb-stormarn.de. For those who can't make it to Bargteheide, there will also be another course in Bad Oldesloe from September 17th.

Successful concept with a lot of experience

The concept of the course goes back to the Finnish Mannerheim League for Child Welfare and was developed by Paula Honkanen-Schoberth. The “Strong Parents – Strong Children” course has been running in Aachen since 1985 and has since reached numerous parents, families, children and young people. Funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs in the early 2000s, the course was able to be spread nationwide, as confirmed by kinderschutzbund.de.

The evaluation of the program shows impressive results. According to a survey conducted by the Child Protection Association among 300 parents before and after attending the course, the family atmosphere and the parent-child relationship improved significantly. Scientific studies have tested the program several times and placed it on the prevention green list, which underlines the effectiveness of the course.

Parent engagement and educational success

Family background plays a central role in children’s educational success. As a publication by the Federal Agency for Civic Education shows, the social background, the level of education of the parents and the involvement of the parents in everyday school life have a significant influence on the development of children. Implementing informal education programs such as parenting courses can make a crucial difference, as it will enable parents to be better equipped to help and support their children. Parental involvement also promotes the school climate, which is essential for educational success. For example, studies show that 73.6% of mothers without a professional qualification take care of homework, while mothers with higher education are increasingly involved, as the analyzes published by bpb.de show.

The core of the course is to promote support in school education. Through targeted workshops, parents can learn how they can actively contribute to increasing their children's educational potential.

With this free offer, the Child Protection Association ensures that all families, regardless of their social background, have the opportunity to take part in this valuable course. A good hand for the upbringing and further education of your own children cannot begin soon enough!
