European Doctors' Conference: New solutions to obesity in children!
In Europe, the differences in general care are the focus of an upcoming congress that takes place from April 25th to 27th, 2025 in the border triangle of Luxembourg, Homburg and Strasbourg. The congress is organized by the universities in Luxembourg, Strasbourg, the Université de Lorraine and the University of Saarland and is to attract around 200 participants, including young family doctors and medical students. The aim is to get to know the variety of medical practices in Europe and to address the challenges in family medicine. This is reported by the Saarland University in a current article.
The program of the congress includes various plenary sessions and workshops. Topics such as the dermatological detection of skin cancer in different skin colors and the handling of increasing obesity in children are particularly emphasized. The second day of conference on the Homburg campus is devoted to the protection of medical personnel and patients against extreme heat and the influence of cultural background on communication on mental health.
challenges of obesity
obesity is one of the central topics that also require medical practice. In Europe, about 52% of adults are overweight or obese, and almost every third child suffers from overweight. These alarming statistics were published by the EU, which pursues a strategy to combat these challenges that promotes nutrition and physical activity. In addition, the EU has set up committees to develop a comprehensive approach to health -hazardous overweight.
The World Health Organization (WHO) emphasizes that daily consumption of fruit and vegetables in children with highly educated parents is more common. Nevertheless, only a few countries with originally high prevalence rates of overweight show a decline. The focus on primary prevention and dealing with obesity is considered crucial for reducing non -transferable diseases. In 2023, the WHO is planning a summit in Croatia to discuss the topic of obesity in childhood.
variety in family medicine
Another aspect that is discussed during the congress is the different ways of working in general practitioners in Europe. While German general practitioners often carry out extensive examinations, specialized practices in France are responsible for these tasks. These differences illustrate the variety of medical practices in urban and rural areas of the large region.
The preliminary program of the congress also offers a week of hospitation for 55 doctors in family doctor's practices in the border triangle to intensify the exchange about local practices and standards.
