Frankfurt security concept: weapon ban zones and video control

In a time when the concerns about security in cities increase, the mayor of Frankfurt (Oder), René Wilke, has proposed measures to strengthen the security sense of the population. This discussion came up as a result of a number of worrying acts of violence, such as knife attacks and fights that shook the city in recent weeks.

Wilke, who was a member of the left until July and is now independent, commented on the police in an open letter. His emphasis is particularly noteworthy of the "subjective feeling of security", which apparently suffers from the population. The appeal took place in the context of incidents, in which, among other things, two men attacked a group of young people with a knife and a machete. The police spokesman, Roland Kamenz, admitted that such crimes significantly impair the citizens' sense of security.

suggestions for improving security

In his letter to the police inspection Oder-Spree, Wilke explained several suggestions in his letter. The measures he brings into play are well thought out and should primarily reduce the crime rate. This includes improving the lighting of public places, such as the Lennèpark and the Kleistpark. Wilke received feedback on uncertain environments in these places from many citizens, especially during the evening, which underlines his suggestions again.

The mayor also plans to expand the existing ban on alcohol in the city, especially in the area of the Pablo-Neruda Block. This should reduce possible riots and attacks that are often related to alcohol consumption. Another central point in Wilke's suggestions are the so -called weapon ban zones he wants to set up, supported by video surveillance for preventive control.

This video surveillance hopes Wilke a faster response from the police to potential acts of violence before they can actually take place. A significant step that aims to act preventively instead of only reacting afterwards. However, it remains to be seen, which also made it clear that these special weapon ban zones have to be requested from the Ministry of the Interior, which could possibly delay the implementation.

The city of Frankfurt (Oder) has the option of independently implementing some of the proposed measures, such as the improved lighting of the parks and the expansion of the alcohol ban zone. This shows that Wilke follows a combination of different approaches to improve security and promote the quality of life in the city.

In addition to these measures, Wilke is also interested in expanding social work in schools. This could help in the long term to prevent violence and crime by better supporting young people in a protected framework.

The situation in Frankfurt (Oder) remains tense, but Mayor Wilke's suggestions could improve a crucial impulse. The challenges that have arisen from the recent acts of violence show that there is a need for action in the city in order to regain the trust of citizens in their security.
