The phenomenon of running: his influence on the sense of community

Last Sunday the Alm Halm Marathon 2024 took place and brought two impressive victories for South Tyrol. More than 700 enthusiastic runners from 33 different countries faced the challenge of this unique marathon. The event, which has been sold out since mid -April, started at 9 a.m. in Compatsch, where a top group settled from the start, led by later winner Markus Ploner.

Markus Ploner, who lives in Bolzano, was the first to cross the finish line after around 17 kilometers, with a comfortable lead over his competitors. On the last kilometers, the 43-year-old athlete from Wipptal further expanded his lead and won in a time of 1: 20.45 hours. For Ploner it was the first victory on the Seiser Alm, despite its earlier panel places. Martin Griesser from Freienfeld secured second place, followed by Patrick König from Germany.

In the women, Greta Haselrieder again showed her dominance and won the Alm Halm marathon for the second time after 2022. Even a fall could not stop the pusterian when she reached the goal in 1: 36.21 hours. Lena Zingerle from Mühlbach ran in second place after an impressive catch-up, followed by the American Lydia van Vleet in third place.

A special aspect of the marathon was the Charity Run 2024, which supported the organization "Free To Run - Empowerment Thrower Running". This organization is committed to changing gender norms in conflict areas by helping girls and young women to strengthen their leadership qualities by running. A symbolic check of 3000 euros was handed over to the well-known extreme marathon runner Manfred Mussner.

The organization committee took a positive record of the course of the marathon and thanked the volunteers and the sponsors. The organizers Helmut Mitterstieler and Thomas Perathon announced the next Alm Halm Marathon for July 6, 2025.

The winners of the Seiser Alm Halb Marathon, Markus Ploner and Greta Haselrieder, commented on their successes and showed their joy about the goals achieved.

The phenomenon of running combines people from different countries and cultures and promotes the sense of community. The Alm Halm Marathon 2024 was not only a sporty highlight, but also a celebration of the togetherness and commitment to a good cause. - nag
