School on the Langen Wall: History and Future United in Hameln!
Langer Wall, 31785 Hameln, Deutschland - On February 17, 2025, the lessons were only scheduled until 1:00 p.m. at the Elisabeth Selbert School in Hameln due to a school-wide service meeting. This is one of the current measures that the school takes to reorganize itself.
The Elisabeth-Selbert School, which is located on the Langen Wall in Hameln, was built in 1950 to preserve the appearance of the Weser promenade. Their history goes back to the 17th century when the "Langer Wall Baracke" was built as one of three barracks. Later, in 1832, the city of Hameln acquired the barracks. As a result, these served as a poor and orphanage, old people's home, hospital department and prison. Around 70 forced laborers were housed there during the Second World War. After the demolition of the old buildings in 1947, the new school was inaugurated in 1950, which also housed apartments and offices of the Oberweser steam shipping. In the meantime, the city library was accommodated in the building, such as the dewezet reported.
Current developments at the school
In addition to the organizational adjustments, the Elisabeth-Selbert School has a new headmaster. On March 1, 2025, the tenth alumni meeting of the vocational high school will take place. From the school year 2025/26 the vocational school BFS Dual will be introduced in the field of health and social affairs, with training courses on the medical assistant and to the dental assistant.
On March 26, 2025, the school and the Hameln-Pyrmont district organize a conference on the subject of "Strengthening children: needs and rights in view". The school management also received positive feedback on the competence and motivation of young professionals, which promotes an exchange between trainees and practice instructors in nursing.
