Antique fashion in focus: Special exhibition in Jena reveals secrets!
From October 30th, the fascinating special exhibition "Endymata: fashion in antiquity" will open in the antique collection of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. This unique show looks deep into the fashionable preferences of the ancient Greeks and shows how dresses, hairstyles and jewelry styles were in ancient times. Dr. Dennis Graen, Cust about the Ancient Collection, explains that although there was no special name for fashion in antiquity, the term "endymata" is the Greek word for clothing. The exhibition offers insights into the manufacturing techniques for clothing, which were often carried out in your own household, and shows fascinating artifacts such as purple snails and coloring plants.
Admission to the exhibition is free and the opening times are on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and on Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. The highlights also include thematic tours that round off the exciting accompanying program of the exhibition. The opening will take place on Wednesday, October 30th, at 6 p.m. For more information on guided tours and appointments, interested parties can contact Antikensammlungen@uni-jena.de.
