Now new: Students can update their student ticket independently!
The introduction of the new function for the independent update of the electronic student ticket is a significant progress in Jena local transport. Pupils now have the option of loading their student ticket directly and easily onto their existing chip card. This not only facilitates access to public transport, but also promotes the independence of the students.
Important information on ticket update
For the update of the student ticket, it is necessary that the students have already received their chip card from the respective school and receive the ticket through the school administrations. All previous tickets will lose their validity at the end of the school year, on June 30, 2024. As a result, all students must from the 1. August 2024 apply for new tickets to continue to go to school by bus and train.
How does the update work?
The update is easy to carry out both in the city traffic of Jena and in the buses of the Jes Transport Society:
- in city traffic Jena:
- Visit a ticket machine at a stop or in the vehicle.
- Select "Read the Chip Card/Barcode" on the screen.
- keep your chip card on the corresponding black field.
- Your new ticket will be played automatically.
- in the buses of the Jes:
- lean your chip card on the control unit at the driver.
- The new ticket is played and displayed.
It is important to note that this can take a few seconds.
necessary prerequisites for use
To use the electronic student ticket, the students need a valid student ID or a corresponding authorization medium. From the age of 16, an official ID card with a photo is also required if the authorization medium does not contain a photo. If the chip card is lost, students in the Stadtwerke Jena customer center can request a replacement card for a fee of 10 euros.
additional offers and information
The Germany ticket is stored on all chip cards, except for validity in the Regio 1. Students can view their current ticket at any time via the "Meinjena" app, which makes the use of local transport even more flexible.
The Jena local transport and the Jes Transport Society wish all students a smooth start to the new school year and a pleasant and safe journey. This innovation is not only of practical relevance, but also shows the trend towards more digitization in school traffic that improves the mobility of young people.
