A couple from Thuringia, Hartmut and Karin Bergner, experienced an unexpected breakdown during a visit to Kassel. On October 4, they wanted to get an NVV multiticket at the machine at Wilhelmshöhe station. Although Hartmut had a 10 euro certificate and 50 cents, the machine reported that 9.80 euros were still missing, while the banknote was apparently not registered. Attempts to fix the problem remained unsuccessful: the machine only returned the 50 cent piece, the 10 euros were disappeared.

Despite the message of the incident in the NVV customer center, the couple stopped feedback for three weeks. A spokeswoman for the North Hessian Transport Association confirmed that several passengers had reported similar problems. The case was forwarded to the Kassel Verkehrs-Gesellschaft, which checks whether the machine was defective. According to a spokesman, the machine has now been repaired and the reimbursement process is running, but there could be delays due to illness.
