Community in uniform: training of Ukrainian soldiers in Neubrandenburg
In northern Germany, the Panzergrenadierbrigade 41 "Western Pomerania" takes over the training of Ukrainian soldiers by the end of the year. Among other things, this further training includes training on the battle tank Leopard A1. The brigade that has its rod in Neubrandenburg enables Ukrainian forces to gain important experience in dealing with the latest military technology.
Recently, the brigade tour attended a fighting armor training that took place in świętoszów, Poland. The delegation found that the Ukrainian soldiers in the Polish partner brigade, the 10th Polish Panzenkavalleriebrandraß, are highly motivated and well trained, which underlines the need and importance of international military cooperation.
Reinforcement of cooperation between Germany and Poland
The sponsorship between the Panzergrenadier Brigade and the Polish partner brigade has existed for several years and is strengthened by regular visits and joint events. A Highlight of these relationships was the course in exchange with the Polish forces, the important feedback for their own training of the Western Pomerania Brigade, as Oberstleutnant Holger Deckenbach, the head of the staff, emphasized.
Special weight was given the connection between the associations through a cultural evening and a joint service, in which wreaths were laid down. During an appeal, the anniversary of the brigade was celebrated, in which a delegation from Neubrandenburg also took part. Colonel Arno Josef Schöberl, deputy brigade commander, called the event a multinational success and confirmed the close connection between the German and Polish armed forces.
In the current geopolitical situation, such multinational partnerships are crucial. As is well known, crises and conflicts, such as the situation in Ukraine, come to the fore again and again, which makes cooperation between the military in Europe of the greatest importance.
The Panzergrenadierbrigade 41 belongs to the 1st Panzer Division and has its location in the Tollenenskaserne in Neubrandenburg. It leads six battalions that are distributed along the federal states of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schleswig-Holstein and Saxony-Anhalt. These strategic units are well positioned to react quickly to military challenges.
In addition to military training, Colonel Schöberl also participated in the annual soldier pilgrimage, which is organized by the Catholic Church of Poland and takes place annually from Warsaw to Tschenstochau. This tradition, which brings together the soldiers for over ten days and 300 kilometers, shows the commitment of the brigade for the community and spiritual values.
In a recently approved step, the Federal Ministry of Economics has enabled the export of up to 178 Leopard 1A5 battle tanks from Danish stocks to Ukraine. This not only shows Germany's determination to support Ukraine, but also the underlying trends of increased military cooperation in Europe during challenging times.
