NDR QuizShow: Who will determine the lamp of the north?
On May 4, 2025, an exciting edition of the "NDR QuizShow" took place. In this quiz show, which is moderated by Laura Karasek, various participants competed against each other to win the coveted award "Luminaire of the North". The candidates included the political science student Lisa Jelting from Göttingen and the teacher Paul Weber from Rostock. In addition, a dentist, a managing director and an emergency doctor took part in the show. All participants come from northern Germany and are well familiar with their homeland.
The "NDR QuizShow" is broadcast on Sunday evening and, in addition to the exciting questions, also offers the opportunity for a participant from another federal state to win the victory. Laura Karasek has been going through the show since the end of 2022 after the moderation of Jörg Pilawa, who had headed the show from 2014 to 2022. According to a report by Wikipedia, each of the five candidates represents a federal state, including Bremen, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein
rules and awards
The rules of the “NDR QuizShow” have been adapted several times over the years. Open questions and multiple choice questions are currently being used, and there is a time specification for the answering of most questions. The candidates collect points, and the winner of the show not only receives the "lamp of the north", but also a prize money of 1,000 euros. It will be particularly exciting at the end of the year when the best candidates of a federal state compete against each other to determine the annual winner.
The program has produced special editions with prominent candidates and children's specials in the past. On the occasion of the twenty-year anniversary of the popular series "News from Büttenwarden", a special edition was broadcast, as can be read in the report by NDR
