Skyliners Frankfurt in the doping shock: Coplin under suspicion!
The Skyliners Frankfurt have had a turbulent first half of the season in which they had to experience both pleasant and worrying events. Especially the doping case, in which player Booker Coplin was tested positively for testosterone, causes a sensation and has significantly impaired the mood within the team.
The managing director of the Skyliners, Thomas Sulzer, who has been in office since March 2024, commented on the developments around the club. In the interview, he explained that sport needs more financial means to promote the development of the Skyliners. Despite the setbacks, Sulzer remains optimistic and announced that after approval for the construction of a new multifunctional hall with champagne.
doping case and its consequences
The doping incident is particularly serious because Coplin, 27 years old and from the USA, made a positive urine test on November 27, 2022 during an unannounced training control. This test result was evaluated by the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA), while the result of the B test is still pending. As a result of the positive test, Coplin was suspended with immediate effect from participation in the game and training company. The Frankfurt public prosecutor's office has investigated suspicion of a violation of the Anti-Doping Act, such as the FAZ reported.
Thomas Sulzer was shaken by the events and emphasized that the positive test meant both a sporting loss and an image damage for the team. Coplin said that he has been taking a medically necessary medication since childhood and never knowingly doped. It is currently being checked internally whether he has noted this medication in his list of regular medication.
The Skyliners are currently fighting for relegation in the basketball Bundesliga. With a record of 4 wins and 12 defeats, they are faced with the important game against the Liga Confillation Light Göttingen. Sulzer is optimistic that the sporting situation will improve despite the current problems. The previous home balance of 1: 6 also causes dissatisfaction with the fans, which, however, were able to achieve impressive record income in the ticket sales in four sold -out games.
For the Skyliners, it is about quickly returning to normal after the doping scandal and maintaining the playoff hopes, while the association continues to look for new sponsors after the contract with the long-standing name sponsor Fraport has ended. Sulzer expresses his hope that the coming months will bring a positive turn for the Skyliners.
