Air quality in Hanover: Citizens have to prepare for fine dust
On April 16, 2025, the air quality at the measuring station on Göttinger Strasse, Linden-Süd, was recorded in Hanover. The measurement focused on fine dust particles (PM10) per cubic meter of air. The limit for PM10 is 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air and may not be exceeded in the course of the year, such as Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung reported. The air quality is measured by three main values: fine dust, nitrogen dioxide and ozone.
The specified limit values divide the air quality into different categories: “very bad” is classified over 100 μg/m³ and ozone over 240 μg/m³ for nitrogen dioxide over 200 μg/m³. The value "bad" applies to nitrogen dioxide between 101 and 200 μg/m³, fine dust between 51 and 100 μg/m³ and ozone between 181 and 240 μg/m³. For the "moderate" category, the values for nitrogen dioxide between 41 and 100 μg/m³, fine dust between 35 and 50 μg/m³ and ozone are decisive between 121 and 180 μg/m³. The measurement takes place as an hourly agent for nitrogen dioxide and ozone or as an hourly sliding daily remedy for fine dust.
recommendations for sensitive people
In poor air quality, various recommendations apply: In the case of “very bad”, sensitive people should avoid physical exertion outdoors. With “bad” it is advisable that sensitive people avoid exhausting activities outdoors, but less sensitive people can also react. In the case of “moderate”, short -term health effects are unlikely, but they can occur with sensitive people. An air quality that is classified as "good" or "very good" does not offer any health -adverse effects and the best conditions for outdoor activities.
It is worth noting that fireworks qualm consists considerably of fine dust that can be harmful to health. Around 2050 tons of fine dust are released annually, with 1500 tons, i.e. 75%, being emitted on New Year's Eve alone.
