Protest in Hanover: Alliance defends Brandwall to the AfD!

Hannover, Deutschland - With a clear signal of the counter -movement, the eyes are looking at Hanover today. On the occasion of a controversial coordination in the Bundestag on asylum policy, which was enforced with votes of the Alternative for Germany (AfD), an alliance calls for protests. The application of CDU/CSU, which aims at the rejection of asylum seekers at German borders, caused excitement in the political landscape.

The planned rally takes place today at 6 p.m. at Opernplatz in Hanover. The merger, including the SPD, the Greens, the Hanover church district, the Diakonisches Werk Hannover and the GEW educational union, expects around 2,000 participants. The alliance refers to the vote of the Union and AfD as a "taboo break" and calls for the defense of the so -called "fire wall" to the AfD. The motto of the demonstration is: "The fire wall must remain". Further demos against the right and to defend the fire wall have already been announced in cities such as Bremen, Hamburg, Frankfurt am Main, Stuttgart, Cologne, Leipzig and Heidelberg.

political developments in the Bundestag

A little later, the Bundestag confirmed the result of the vote, which was composed of 187 votes from the Union, 75 of the AfD, 80 by the FDP and 6 without a framework and thus recorded 348 votes for the application and 344. SPD parliamentary group leader Tonne criticized the measure and accused CDU and CSU "cheap political populism". It is noteworthy that in 2024 significantly more people were deported than in the previous year, while only 1% of those seeking protection is subject to departure.

As the German wave reported, as part of the current discussion about the "brand wall" between the Union and the AfD, referred to the words of Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who said that January 29 was a significant day in the history of Germany. Scholz emphasized that the Union had given up a consensus on working with the extreme right. This is done at a time when the CDU/CSU is repeatedly criticized, especially since Friedrich Merz (CDU) has described the support of the AfD as irrelevant in the vote.

A growing number of votes in the population supports cooperation with the AfD. A survey by the research group elections shows that 47% of those surveyed are in favor of this, while 48% are against it. At the same time, 71% of the AfD observes as a threat to democracy.
