Oldenburg youth choir celebrates 80 years - anniversary concert is imminent!

The Oldenburg Youth Choir (OJC) celebrates its 80th anniversary this year. An anniversary concert will be held in the Kulturzentrum Pfl on Saturday, March 29, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. On this special occasion, former singers are cordially invited to take part in the concert and to celebrate this anniversary together with the current members of the choir.

The choir, which has been active in Oldenburg for 80 years, currently consists of 30 members aged 14 years and of the age of 14. Samples take place every Thursday from 6.15 p.m. to 7.45 p.m. in the Helene Lange School. The regular appearances of the choir include semi-annual school concerts from the Helene Lange School and performances in the Gleispark. Review of the choir line by Gerd Meyer

A significant part of the history of the OJC is the management of Gerd Meyer, which was at the head of the choir from 1979 to 1996. During his tenure, up to 80 young singers sang spiritual and secular choral music from all over the world. Gerd Meyer was a full -time school musician and also volunteered in the choir. The important events that took place under his leadership include the summer letter in the castle garden, Advent concerts and the musical design of the Christvesper in the Lambertikirche. Meyer also promoted international encounters and choir friendships, including with Hungary, Israel and Spain.

Under his leadership, the OJC also continuously participated in festivals such as Europa-Cantat and the International Singing Week. The choir traveled to many countries and performed significant choral works.
