Bomb alarm in Osnabrück: 15,400 residents have to leave their houses!
In Osnabrück, a comprehensive evacuation of around 15,400 residents will be carried out on Sunday in order to defuse possible duds. The affected residents have to leave their apartments by 7 a.m., while a restricted area of around three square kilometers is set up. Anyone who is taken up in the evacuation area after this time must expect a fine of at least 300 euros. The Schinkel comprehensive school will serve as an emergency shelter, to which buses will drive from the affected districts from 6 a.m.
The two clinics in the affected area, the Christian children's hospital and the Marienhospital, also close from 7 a.m. No relocations of patients are planned, but access to both hospitals is restricted, and the emergency rooms remain closed during evacuation. In the meantime, emergencies will be headed to the Osnabrück Clinic or to the Franziskus Hospital-Harderberg, while child emergencies are transferred to the University Hospital in Münster. A doctor in a practice in Hellern is also available for children's emergencies. To ensure security, ambulances are stationed near the children's hospital.
evacuation measures and effects
The Osnabrück Central Station is closed from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., which leads to train failures and delays in long-distance and local transport. Percentable replacement traffic by bus is also set up in local transport. There are also changes in regional transport because the RE 9 ends in Bohmte and is offered between Bohmte and Hasbergen replacement traffic, while the RE 62 fails all day. Long -distance trains like IC and ICE also delayed or fail and do not stop in Osnabrück, Bremen or Münster.
These measures are due to the discovery of four suspected bombing of construction work on the site of the former freight station. In view of these incidents, the city expects further suspected cases during ongoing construction work. In addition, it was reported that the highest number of bombs in one day were rendered harmless on November 17th in Osnabrück. On this day there were a total of seven bombs, including six duds and a smashed bomb. There were difficulties in the defusing work because unauthorized persons lingered in the evacuation area, which led to over two hours of delay.
