New winemaker from Passau: Burghauser Wine blooms on Wöhrsee
The return of the wine tradition in Burghausen sets new impulses for the region. In a significant step for urban wine production, Hubert Weizenberger from Passau took responsibility for the vineyard on Wöhrsee. This marks a fresh start after almost two decades, in which Curt and Thomas Pfeifenthaler served as those responsible for the Burghauser Wine.
New winemaker brings fresh wind
The couple Hubert and Eva Weizenberger introduced a new winery in Passau in 2017 and have been producing organic wines from regional grape types since then. Your decision to take over the city vineyard in Burghausen is not only a personal project, but also a revival of the wine production culture in the region. Hubert Weizenberger is enthusiastic about the quality and care of the vineyard: "The situation is phenomenal. I look forward to being able to transform the Burghauser wine into a modern and straightforward wine," he says.
challenges of organic certification
A crucial point in the cooperation between the winegrowers and the city was organic certification. The Burghauser Gwax is currently not bio-certified, which is a hurdle. "The certification is not easy to get and lose quickly. We didn't want to risk anything," explain the Weizenberger. For this reason, specific facilities were purchased to ensure a clear separation between the organic wines and the Burghauser wine.
a collaboration with potential
Mayor Florian Schneider also emphasizes the importance of this new cooperation: "The shorter the distance to the winemaker, the better for everyone. I wish you good cooperation and good luck." The connection between the city and the new winemaker not only opens up new opportunities for regional viticulture, but also strengthens the sense of community. The volunteers who are part of the Burghausen e.V. settler association will continue their voluntary work and cooperate with the Weizenberger.
visit and tasting in Passau
The Weizenberger likes to invite the Burghausers to visit their winery and try wines. "I would be happy if the Burghauser visits our winery and we could test the rehearsal in Passau," added Hubert Weizenberger. The winery not only offers wines, but also sells the winemaker and honey. These products are available via their online shop and also reach top gastronomy.
The history of the Burghauser Weinbergs
The Burghauser Weinberg has its roots in the 2004 State Garden Show, with the vines from the twin town of Ptuj. This history gives the cooperation between Burghausen and the new winegrowers a special meaning and shows how tradition and modern craft can flow together to promote the viticultural culture in the region.
Overall, the takeover of the Burghauser vineyard by Hubert Weizenberger is an important development for wine production in Lower Bavaria. It brings new perspectives and opportunities for an industry that is changing and lies the foundation for fruitful cooperation between winegrowers and the city.
