Rotenburg is looking for silent heroes for a special honorary award in 2026!
This year, the city of Rotenburg will once again be setting a special example for free social commitment. The awarding of the 2026 honorary award is imminent and the city is calling on committed citizens to nominate. Especially at a time when volunteer work often takes a back seat, the city would like to use this award to provide a stage for the neighborhood's quiet stars. District newspaper reports that proposals can be submitted until April 15, 2026.
Since its introduction twelve years ago by Susanne Kuppler, the honorary award has honored those who work voluntarily and unpaid for others. To be nominated, the person must come from Rotenburg or be active there and must not be involved in a club. Changes in the social structure, for example through neighborhood help or support for refugees, show how diverse the commitment can be.
What are the requirements?
The honorary award recognizes special commitment that does not take place within the framework of a club. The committee, which consists of nine members, including Mayor Torsten Oestmann, is ready to examine the proposals. Award winners will not only receive a ceremonial laudation and a certificate, but also a personal gift during an honoring event planned for the end of May 2026.
Volunteering in Germany
In Germany, almost 30 million people are active on a voluntary basis and are committed to the common good. This impressive number shows how important volunteering is in our society. The German Commitment Prize, which has been awarded since 2009, is one of the numerous awards that honor valued work. Such awards create a nice connection between different initiatives and make the diversity of volunteer work visible. Deutschland.de highlights that there are currently around 650 awards for volunteer work in Germany.
There are numerous awards that recognize civic achievements. These include, among other things, the volunteer diploma, which is awarded from the age of 14, and the badge of honor from the Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, which is awarded for long-term, special services to the common good. These awards are not only important in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, but also show commitment in various areas across the country.
In view of the extensive opportunities that volunteering offers and the hymns of praise that are sung about it, the population is now asked to submit suggestions for the 2026 Honorary Award in Rotenburg. Volunteer Foundation MV invites you to make the community's quiet heroes visible. Show your respect for those who work tirelessly for others and promote social interaction in your city!
