Small camping in Schleswig-Holstein: dispute over ban!

The dispute over campsites in Schleswig-Holstein escalates, since the smaller parking spaces have increasingly become in trouble since a ban from 2023. Camping behind the KRONSGAARD's Baltic Sea dike has been a popular holiday destination since the 1960s, but the introduction of new regulations caused unrest among camping friends.

Eve Asmussen, a long -time camping seeker, has captured in Kronsgaard from 2013 to 2023 and remembers the great demand for the only five parking spaces for residential followers. A change in the law in 2016 prohibited small camping places to contain wild camping and promote nature conservation. During the Corona pandemic, camping experienced an upswing, which led to a toleration of these small places. But the joy lasted briefly; At the end of 2022 the regular campers learn that the 2023 season would be the last.

regulation and permits in the focus

The regulation of the camping in Kronsgaard started tents in 1962 and became more and more strict over the years. Holger Hofmann, Chairman of the Building Committee of Kronsgaard, is committed to reintroducing the permits for small camping places. The current state natural protection law allows camping for groups of up to 35 people, but not for individual campers. As a result, the parking space has remained unused since autumn 2023.

The Ministry of the Environment indicated in a statement that municipalities could approved new development plans for small camping places; However, a positive decision is assessed as uncertain. Eve Asmussen has also been fighting for a reopening of the campsites for two years. In response to the persistent problems, a petition in the state parliament was submitted. Minister of Tourism Claus Ruhe Madsen said that he wanted to attract more tourists, but nature conservation must also be taken into account.

In the meantime, another picture arises when you look at the ongoing discussions in the state parliament. According to a report on the Landtags website, there is hardly any free places without a pre-booking in the high season in Schleswig-Holstein. The FDP faction has submitted an application to strengthen the camping. This aims to enable environmentally conscious camping at agricultural farms and to loosen the said regulations. The application was transferred to the Economic Committee and the Interior and Legal Committee for further advice.

In recent years, municipalities have been able to approve up to five tents or movable accommodations for up to six months. This regulation was changed by the coastal coalition in 2016, which allows only tents to be allowed for groups of up to 35 people. Annabell Krämer (FDP) pleads for a reduction in bureaucracy, taking into account the minor camping places, taking into account hygiene, nature and noise protection standards. She receives support from Sybilla Nitsch (SSW), while others like Thomas Hölck (SPD) doubt the need for the regulation and warn of a two-class camping tourism. Environment Minister Tobias Goldschmidt (Greens) refers to the large number of regular campsites and emphasizes the importance of nature conservation and biodiversity.
