Dispute over logistics center in Lübeck: residents fear traffic chaos!

Glashüttenweg 33-35, 23562 Lübeck, Deutschland - In Lübeck, an investor plans to build a large logistics center on Glashüttenweg 33-35. The project could create a total of 150 jobs and is supported by business development as well as the political parties CDU and SPD. However, residents express concerns about future traffic because they warn of a possible overload of the streets. The independent Volt party and the Greens also criticize the planned location and demand a better development plan.

The project was presented in the Economic Committee in mid -January, with investors assuming a high double -digit million amount investment. The planned building is intended to include an area of almost 40,000 square meters and include offices and social rooms. According to the investors, the area offers ideal conditions because it is an unused wasteland. Detlev Stolzenberg from the independent Volt party has expressed concerns and sees better plots of land on the highway for logistics companies.

criticism and concerns of the residents

The planned measures stipulate that old industrial buildings are torn down to make room for the logistics center. Among other things, the round table Karlshof-Israelsdorf fears that there could be several hundred truck trips a day and night, which would put a lot of strain on residents. The districts are also worried about the noise pollution and additional traffic loads.

The sale of the area is viewed as a private business, which is why the city has no right of first refusal. Nevertheless, the city positively approved the investor's preliminary building request in 2022. So far, however, no building application has been made, and the project carriers themselves do not expect a significant increase in the trips through the logistics center.

In addition to the developments in Lübeck, other sources report similar projects in the region. In Eisenfelden, a logistics center and a motorway hotel could be created on an agricultural area. In a meeting, the city council took note of the planning documents for early public participation. The constellation decision for the commercial area was taken four years ago, and there are already pre-contracts for a petrol station and a fast food restaurant. The plans provide, among other things, that the logistics company with large warehouses should be based up to a height of 23 meters, such as the Press reported.
