Officials in the pension fund: a dispute over justice and costs!

Deutschland - The debate about the statutory pension fund picks up on speed, just a few days after the new federal government took office. Minister of Labor Bärbel BAS (SPD) has clearly positioned herself and calls for an inclusion of civil servants, MPs and the self -employed in the statutory pension fund. This step is intended to help close the growing financial gap in the pension fund. Currently, only 1.5 employees come to a pensioner, which represents a drastic decline compared to the six employed per pensioner at the beginning of the system. These developments trigger controversial reactions.

Chancellor's head Thorsten Frei (CDU) decidedly rejects BAS's proposal and points out that he is not laid down in the coalition agreement. Officials who do not pay a pension, but a pension funded by the taxpayer, enjoy numerous advantages. The average pension rate for civil servants and judges is 66.8 percent.

unequal payment and pension expenses

The statistics show a clear difference between the pensioners of civil servants and regular workers. In 2022, the average pension for civil servants was 3,240 euros, while regular employees received only 1,543 euros on average. Another factor is that officers can often retire earlier, at the age of 60. The pension expenses decided have grown marked since 1995: from 25 billion euros to 61 billion euros. In 2022, the federal expenditure for pensions was 17 billion euros, that of the federal states added to 38 billion euros.

Monika Schnitzer, chair of the economic methods, supports the inclusion of civil servants in the pension fund. It expresses that this would not be a solution to the imbalance between younger and older generations. Despite these individual views, the question of the financial burden for the federal, state and municipalities remains a concern that is often expressed by experts.

debates about reforms

In addition, various reform options were presented by the Council of Experts to assess the overall economic development. These suggestions include to include newly hired civil servants in the statutory pension insurance (GRV) and introduce a company pension. The goal of such reforms would be a long -term relief for the state and contain the pension benefits. The Greens and the SPD support these reforms, whereby the Greens propose a gradual citizens' insurance in which all professional groups should deposit.

Completely skeptical, the FDP is shown by the inclusion of officials in the GRV and advocates a capital -covered model. The Union, on the other hand, speaks out against radical reforms and prefers selective adjustments. The AfD rejects a general involvement of civil servants in the statutory pension insurance, but calls for a restriction of civil service status to sovereign tasks and the inclusion of politicians.

A current survey shows that 81.4 percent of the population are in statutory pension insurance for the inclusion of newly employed state employees. It can be expected that the discussion about these reforms will play a central role in the election campaign in terms of the long -term design of the pension system.
