Ecumenical showcase project: Two communities celebrate their merger in Klarenthal
In the Wiesbaden community of Klarenthal, a remarkable concept is formed that redefines the cooperation between Protestant and Catholic faith communities. A flagship project of ecumenism takes shape, shaped by a deep sense of community and a common vision. The Catholic community of St. Klara offered its community center for sale and moves to the Evangelical Community Center at Graf-von-Galen-Strasse 34. The special? From September 22nd at 11:00 a.m. the first ecumenical trade fair will take place, an event that already triggers great anticipation among the members of both communities.
The fusion of the two communities is not only a practical step, but also a symbolic sign for a new era of dialogical coexistence. Pastor Knud Schmitt is enthusiastic about the light -flooded premises and the opportunity to pray and celebrate together. At a time when many churches fight with a decline in membership and the desire for more community, this project is an innovative answer.
unique ecumenical cooperation
The ecumenical experiment in Klarenthal has so far been unable in Wiesbaden. Pastor Alexander Liermann emphasizes the equivalence of both communities: "The Catholics are not only guests with us; we work together and keep our respective identity." This collaboration is based on a decades of friendly relationship that has existed for 56 years. Common after -work meals and ecumenical services are already a tradition, and now this exchange is being raised to a new level.
The challenges associated with the merger cannot be overlooked. Questions such as the place for the tabernacle and the statues of the St. Klara and the Mother of God must be answered. It is also discussed whether one or two Easter candles are necessary. Ther theological details will put the sense of community of the two communities to the test, but also create space for a deepening of cooperation.
anticipation and challenges
Despite the organizational uncertainties, the anticipation of both pastors outweighs the new way together. In this merger, they not only see the opportunity to form a stronger community in the face of loss of membership, but also the opportunity to create a visible and audible presence in the community. "It is nice that something new arises in a time of dismantling," says Pastor Schmitt and signals the courage to tackle the challenges of change together.
The close cooperation and the mutual exchange of volunteers from both municipalities are the pillars that support this project. The anticipation is noticeable and the people in Klarenthal look hopefully into the future. They stand on the threshold of a new chapter that redefines the basics of faith and community. The path will certainly not be without hurdles, but with a strong foundation of friendship and cooperation, the success of this unique undertaking seems to be within reach. The first bells will mark the start of an exciting trip, and everyone involved is ready to face this challenge.
