The makers and the vision

Director Christopher Schier and his screenwriter Holger Karsten Schmidt have created a gripping script that is not only considered a crime thriller, but also raises deeper questions about the moral assessment of perpetrators. “It’s about how behavior changes in times of crisis when it benefits one’s own country,” said Schier in an interview. The filmmakers also consciously decided to design the depictions of violence in such a way that they are rated for ages 12 and up.The characters created include both sympathetic and shady characters, which makes for interesting twists and turns throughout the series.

The core production team includes talents such as Devid Striesow, Jeanette Hain and Karel Dobry, who deliver outstanding performances in their roles.Over 50 days of filming took place in Vienna, with interesting locations and authentic backdrops contributing to the image creation. The series is expected to first appear on television in fall 2026, but the exact form is still unclear; it could be broadcast either as a four-part event series or in a continuous 180-minute version.

Opening and outlook

Unfortunately, only two members of the film team were present at the opening, while Verena Fürgut, head of the cultural department, and numerous official guests officially started the festival. Carolin Bock appealed to the audience to be open to high-quality film art and to support the work of filmmakers.
