Unforgettable trips: Gerhard Föhr and his trusty VW T4 in focus
Gerhard Föhr from Ringschnait has a very special relationship with his T4 Multivan Turbodiesel VW bus. The 57-year-old machinist bought the vehicle as a used car in 2010 - it was already eight years old and had around 120,000 kilometers on the clock. A loyal companion, he always valued it and used it for both professional and leisure activities.
Föhr remembered: “Before the T4, I had a VW Caddy, which I traded in for the T4 because of my caravan.” With the bus's 151 horsepower, he was able to tow his caravan on vacation without any problems. The vehicle accompanied him, among other things, on trips to the majestic peaks of the Großglockner and the impressive Drei Zinnen in South Tyrol. Although the caravan is no longer there, Föhr still uses the T4 as his second living room. In the meantime, the bus has covered an impressive 568,000 kilometers.
Caring for your loyal companion
The VW bus not only brings joy, but also requires a certain amount of dedication. However, the technical functionality of the vehicle is no longer a problem. Föhr mentions that he has invested in past repairs, including an engine and transmission overhaul. “I thought about buying a T5, but I just can't part with my T4,” explains Föhr. However, some rust spots on the vehicle cause concern. The new edition of the VW T4 rust checklist has given clear information about which areas are particularly often attacked. Loud deltabus Some rust spots are more difficult to recognize and could be deliberately hidden when sold.
In the coming months, Föhr plans to put the T4 in the garage to best protect it from the harmful effects of road salt. The next TÜV inspection is coming up, and this will be the twelfth test of the bus. “It has to be fit, the TÜV is important to us!” says the passionate driver.
A very special goal
Looking to the future, Föhr has a big goal: He would like to apply for an H license plate with his T4, which is possible from the age of 30. “That would be something!” he smiles. He also recently attended a VW bus meeting in Kirchzarten, where his vehicle with over 500,000 kilometers was admired. The T4 is one of the highly valued models in the Volkswagen range, precisely because it also comes with numerous amenities, such as an auxiliary heater, a hands-free system and a CD changer. These features make it extremely practical not only for everyday use, but also for trips.
The VW T4 and its history impressively illustrate how important a reliable vehicle can be in shaping your life. The connection between driver and vehicle deepens with every shared adventure, and Föhr is certain: “I won’t just give away my T4 like that.” A real centerpiece on four wheels, that's what I'm planning vwforum to underline impressively. The engines in this series are not only easy to maintain, they have also proven to have a long service life.
