VHS Riedlingen: Exciting winter semester with over 150 courses!
What's going on in Riedlingen? Not only education, but also history shows its exciting side here. The adult education center (VHS) has put together a remarkable program for the coming fall and winter semesters. With over 150 courses and events, the VHS offers something for every age and every taste. Everything is included, from classic subject areas combined with new ideas to lectures and guided tours on the city's rich history. November 18th will be a very special day with the lecture by the renowned professor Dr. Dirk Krausse about the “Celtic burial chamber at Riedlinger Galgenberg” – an event that is already attracting many interested people. There is also a city tour that highlights the curiosities of the historical healthcare system, and a city tour that brings Riedlingen into play as a shopping town in the 1950s. There's a lot on offer especially for those interested in history, but art and literature lovers won't miss out either.
Another exciting aspect of Riedlingen's history concerns the current archaeological discoveries. In an excavation site in the Danube plain, archaeologists from the State Office for Monument Preservation came across a remarkable burial chamber from the early Celtic period, which dates back to around 584 BC. was built. The burial chamber, which is 2.6 meters high and approximately 3.40 meters wide, was empty of traceable grave lags, but evidence of past looting was discovered. Archaeologist Roberto Tarpini suspects that grave robbers were active in the past, pulling out the dead in order to steal valuable objects. Finds so far include the remains of a young man's skeleton, as well as remains of wood that suggest there was once an entire burial site here.
Discover the fascinating past
The burial chamber itself is part of a large burial mound, which is classified as a princely burial mound and dates back to between 620 and 450 BC. is dated. It is located in the vicinity of Heuneburg, an important archaeological site in the region. The excavations, which are being carried out using the latest technology, are a joint project involving archaeology, restoration and natural sciences and are expected to be completed by the end of the year. Archaeologist Leif Hansen hopes to use genetic analysis to find out more about the connections between different Celtic groups.
But it's not just the ancient Celts who care about their education - the VHS also brings numerous events to improve the quality of life of today's citizens. A crash course on tax returns in January or lectures on investment options are also part of the program. And as public interest revives, we can see the growing need for a wide range of health events and language courses. The young audience doesn't miss out either, thanks to sporting activities and creative workshops.

Registration is easy - be it in person, by telephone, in writing by email or online. However, a binding registration is required as courses can be canceled if there are too few participants.
