Missing pedal boat driver: Major search operation started on Lake Constance!

There is a lot of drama in Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance today. Police, DLRG and fire brigade forces have been searching since the early hours of the morning for a missing swimmer who jumped into the lake on Monday and did not return. Several boats and a helicopter are supporting the search operation, which is being coordinated at the same time as other operations in the area. According to news.de, the search for the 23-year-old man was officially started at around 9:22 a.m. today.

The incident occurred on Monday at 2:45 p.m. when the young man jumped from a pedal boat into the water about 80 meters from the harbor entrance. The water temperatures were around 15 degrees Celsius. He was traveling on a pedal boat with four friends, although they were not from the region. Surprisingly, there are no alcoholic influences involved, which makes the circumstances all the more mysterious. According to reports, the friends tried their best to bring the man back from the water, but it was in vain.

The focus of the search operation

After the first search operation was stopped unsuccessfully on Monday evening at 9:25 p.m., the search for the missing person continued on Tuesday. “The DLRG used sonar devices, but without success,” reports schwaebische.de. A total of 265 emergency services were active until late afternoon today, including the water police, DLRG, fire brigade and federal police. Despite intensive efforts, the results have so far been unsuccessful.

The challenges of the search include the current conditions, which are influenced by the inflow of the Rhine and shipping traffic in Lake Constance. Nevertheless, the current currents cannot be classified as exceptionally strong.

Additional information from the region

The situation is also reminiscent of previous events, such as an incident on May 26th when a 24-year-old cyclist jumped into Lake Constance after being checked by the police. Here too, the darkness and cold of the water were a decisive factor for the rescue workers. The cyclist was finally found hypothermic but alive after several hours and taken to the hospital, as vol.at reports.

The port of Friedrichshafen was closed several times during the search, which affected ferry and liner traffic. At the moment, the search for the missing man continues with no positive results as emergency services continue their routine surveillance.
