Kuhlenfeld firefighter athletes: On to the championship and Olympic dreams!
The firefighter athletes from Kuhlenfeld are determined to make a name for themselves beyond the regional borders. After already taking part in the Fire Brigade Olympics in Celje, Slovenia in 2022, they are now aiming for a new challenge: the German Championships in the “Traditional Competition CTIF”, which will take place on July 10, 2023 in Böblingen, Baden-Württemberg. The group is made up of the Wiebendorf, Bengerstorf, Greven, Possession and Kuhlenfeld fire departments and qualified through the state competition and the German championship.
The athletes have trained hard over the past few months to achieve their goals. In winter, training took place in a gym in Ticino near Boizenburg, while in spring intensive sessions took place on a prepared area in Kuhlenfeld. There has been a particular focus in recent weeks on the 400 meter relay race, with the team aiming to break the 400 point mark. No more than 100 seconds may be required for the extinguishing attack and relay race exercises. With this performance, the group could even qualify for the International Fire Brigade Olympics in 2026 if the desired goal is achieved. Loud Northern Courier Despite the disappointment over the cancellation of the Olympics originally planned in Berlin, they are optimistic thanks to the support of sponsors.
The big competition is approaching
The journey to Böblingen will take place on July 10th, 2023, followed by a training day on July 11th from 9 a.m. Finally, on July 12th, the championships also begin at 9 a.m. The preparations are now in full swing and the firefighter athletes are very motivated. The international sport of firefighting has continued to develop over the years and has enjoyed great popularity, as history shows since 1961, when the International Firefighting Federation (CTIF) hosted the first world championships. These fascinating competitions, also known as the Firefighting Olympics, attract participants from over 40 member countries such as Wikipedia explained.
The competitions, which take place every four years, are more than just a sporting event. They reflect the community and cohesion of the firefighters who, not only in theory but also in practice, master what it means to fight for the safety of citizens. Regardless of whether it’s a firefighting attack or an obstacle course – team spirit is very important here!
A look beyond the borders
The fire brigade competitions not only offer a platform for the German groups, but also for numerous international teams. In the past, for example, in 2017 almost 2,900 participants from 27 different countries took part in the competitions in Villach, Austria. This impressively shows how the passion for firefighting knows no bounds.
The disciplines of firefighting are very diverse and range from team disciplines such as the 4x100 meter fire brigade relay to individual disciplines such as the 100 meter obstacle course and hook ladder climbing - this requires not only a good hand but also a lot of endurance and skill. So we can be excited about what they will show at the championships!
We keep our fingers crossed for the firefighter athletes from Kuhlenfeld and look forward to exciting competitions in July - it remains to be seen whether they can achieve their ambitious goals and perhaps even advance to the next Olympics!
